L'Ami belongs to Fernando Álvarez Melero who is possibly her third owner. The previous owner (Vicente Pineda Costa of the Real Club Nautico Denia of Alicante Province, Spain) bought the boat in 2001 from a Dutchman who sailed her from Canada to the Mediterranean Sea.  She has participated in regattas and sailed throughout the Mediterranean and now returns to the Atlantic Ocean in northwest Spain. Fernando does not know her name when launched but knows she was previously named L'Amic.
